Farmers commend government for increases in cocoa price
Districts cocoa chief farmers in the Central Region, led by Nana Kwesi Ofori, Regional Chief Farmer, have commended the government for increasing the producer price of cocoa despite fall in the world market price.
The chief farmers made the commendation at a press conference held after an emergency meeting in Agona Swedru on Friday.
They said the National Democratic Congress’ Government listens and takes the plight of farmers seriously.
In addition, the cocoa farmers said the price increase would boost their moral and also encourage them to work harder to improve upon productivity.
“We hope that it will also inspire us to produce quality cocoa beans to help the country to maintain its high standard cocoa beans on the world”.
They appealed to the committee that oversees the affairs of the cocoa, coffee and sheanut farmers in the country to recommend to the government for further increase when the world market price goes up.
Nana Ofori urged the district cocoa chief farmers to sensitize their members on the need to continue to use the recommended chemical, method, and fertilizers on their farms.
He also urged them to always adhere to advice given them by the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Disease Control Extension officers in order to produce more and good quality cocoa beans.
