NYA to institute National Youth Parliament
The National Youth Authority (NYA) is to institute National Youth Parliament to create a permanent structured participatory platform for the youth.
This was to have a comprehensive database of all youth sector players and in line with the ratified African Youth Charter, inform and involve the youth at all levels of the developmental dialogue.
Mrs Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, National Coordinator of the NYA, disclosed this at a press soiree for the media to interact and also to discuss what the Authority plans and the way forward in Accra on Wednesday.
She said with the introduction of the Youth Policy in August 2010 the Authority had been working hard to inform and equip them to be able to know the priorities of the Policy.
The priority areas of the policy include education and skills training, science, research and technology, technology, youth and employment, entrepreneurship development, youth in modern agriculture, gender mainstreaming, environment, health, HIV and AIDS, governance, leadership and democracy and mentoring.
She said to accelerate the pace of national development; specialization was being encouraged through the creation of priority-area specific network of youth groups through which programmes were to be facilitated, funded and coordinated.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu noted that 11 skill and training institutions across the regions were resourced to keep providing skill training to school-drop outs. Meanwhile, 20 computers were also provided to these institutions to access the internet connectivity.
In addition, she said, 30 youth camps were organized in all the regions where over 30,000 youths participated.
She expressed the hope that corporate institutions could partner the Authority to facilitate youth development for national development.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu said currently the authority lacked staffs and other logistics in its operations.
She, therefore, called on the media to support the NYA to showcase the rich potentials of the youth towards the growth and development of the nation.
