Patients desert Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital

The Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the only referral health institution in the Western Region known for its heavy patient’s attendance, is deserted following the ongoing nationwide medical doctors’ strike.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the hospital on Thursday, patients were lying idle on benches under trees with others sitting in pensive mood hoping that the doctors return soon.

At the delivery and labour wards, few pregnant women were seen sitting idle as nurses chats with them.

Drastic reductions of patients were recorded at the Emergency, Obstetric/Gynaecology, male and female surgical and the children’s blocks.

Some nurses on duty told the Ghana News Agency that three doctors had been running shift attending to emergency cases.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has been at loggerheads with the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) over the former’s migration onto the single spine salary structure.
