Festivals are not fetish, says Central Regional House of Chiefs
The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, has noted that festivals are not fetish as believed by some people.
According to the Regional House of Chiefs President, Celebration of festivals make the revellers to remember their ancestral history and also used it to take stock of their past and plan for the coming years.
Daasebre Ewusi was speaking at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Gomoa Dasum to climax their Annual Akwambo Festival and the 1st Anniversary celebration of Nana Obokumatta, Chief of the town.
It was on the theme: ‘United we stand to develop.”
Dasebre Ewusi, who is also a member of the Council of State said one of the key agenda of the government, is to ensure that the youth who are the future leaders of the nation are trained to be skilful in order for them to contribute in the development of the society.
He said it was in this regard that government introduced the National Youth Employment Programme , especially the Youth in Agriculture module as a means of creating jobs for the youth and also encourage them to take to farming.
The Council of State Member expressed regret about the performance of children in the 2010/2011 Basic Education Certificate Examination results in the region.
He appealed to stakeholders especially parents to play their role to reciprocate government’s effort to provide school infrastructure, free uniforms, exercises books as well as the implementation of the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant.
Nana Obokumatta IX, chief of the town advised his people especially the youth to desist from moral acts such as indecent dressing, drug abuse and indiscriminate sexual acts.
Mr Kinsley Ehunu Armah, Chief Executive of Gomoa East commended the chiefs, elders and the people of the area for celebrating the festival peacefully.
He said as part of the Better Ghana Agenda, government has put in place developmental programmes such as the construction of roads and expansion of electricity.
