Principals call for more recognition of technical and vocational training
The Association of Principals of Technical Institutions(APTI) has suggested that the the administration of Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET) should be placed under a Deputy Minister and Deputy Director General.
APTI also called for the creation of a seat for the Association on the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training(COTVET) should the act establishing the COTVET be reviewed.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by APTI at the end of its 27th conference at Koforidua which was organized under the theme “ Quality assurance for effective and efficient technical, vocational education and training delivery towards job creation and employment”.
The association called on the government to make it possible for minor contracts to be awarded to TVET institutes for effective training and raising of internally generated fund for the running of the institutes.
The Association also called for an increase in the utility grants given to TVET institutes to enable them to pay for the increase in the cost of utility bills.
The communiqué said there were challenges with regard to the disbursement of grants, particularly service grants for training and proposed that beneficiaries be given copies of their budgetary allocation.
The Association called for the provision of vehicles to the 11 institutes that were recently absorbed into the public system and the provision of trucks to all technical institutions.
