Road accidents in Tema reduce in second quarter 2011
The Tema Regional branch of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, recorded a total of 304 accidents during the second quarter of this year as against 435 accidents in the first quarter.
Superintendent Emmanuel Ansong-Dankyi, Regional Commander of the MTTU, who released the figures to the Ghana News Agency in Tema, said 228 vehicles were involved in the accidents, which were recorded in the first quarter.
Supt. Ansong-Dankyi said during the first quarter, his Unit recorded 15 fatalities, 15 serious and 20 minor injuries.
The Regional MTTU Commander said as many as 202 vehicles were involved in the accidents, which also recorded 29 fatalities, 84 serious and 190 minor injuries.
Supt. Ansong-Dankyi said the MTTU would not relent on its efforts to conduct the frequent snap checks in order to ensure sanity on the roads.
He advised drivers to be cautious while driving as Christmas and New Year approaches.
