Agric Minister expresses displeasure over attack on Fisheries Security Taskforce
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi has expressed his displeasure over last Friday’s attack on the Fisheries Security Taskforce by fishermen at the Bosomtwi Fishing Harbour at Sekondi resulting in injury to four Naval officers.
He said the Taskforce was only enforcing the Fisheries Regulations and advised the fisher folks to desist from provoking and attacking them.
Mr. Ahwoi said if not for professionalism exhibited by the military, it would have resulted in a blood bath and therefore admonished the fishermen to cooperate with the Taskforce to ensure the enforcement of the regulations.
Mr. Ahwoi made these pronouncements at a reception ceremony for four newly acquired fast patrol ships for the Ghana Navy at the Takoradi Port on Monday.
The Minister said the acquisition of the ships was to help protect the territorial integrity of the nation, adding that the Military would also deal with fishermen that would hinder the enforcement of the fisheries Regulations.
The four ships namely GNS BLIKA, GNS GARINGA, GNS CHEMLE and GNS EHWOR were categorized as the “Snake Class Ships” to portray the lethal nature of the platform to deal with anticipated threats.
The Poly Technologies Incorporated Group of Quianji Shipyard of the Republic of China built the ships.
The overall length of each ship is 46.8 meters with state-of-the-art navigational devices fitted inside them.
The Country’s Representative of the Poly Technologies Incorporated Group of Quianji Shipyard, Ju Feng, said the cooperation between China and Ghana was for their mutual benefit.
