Farmer jailed 20 years for possessing 13,400 grams of cannabis
A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 40-year-old farmer to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for possessing 13,400 grams of cannabis.
Kwadwo Boadu, alias “Kwadwo Dada” denied the crime.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that his arrest followed a tip off.
The Police on July 25, 2009 at about 1630 hours received information that the convict was drying a quantity of leaves suspected to be cannabis in his house and quickly moved in.
They found him packing the leaves into small black polythene bags and managed to arrest him after he put up fierce resistance.
Samples were sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination and this was confirmed to be cannabis.
Boadu in his caution statement confessed to the crime, and claimed his source of supply was at Sefwi-Wiawso. He could, however, not lead the Police to the said source.
Justice Amo-Yartey ordered the destruction of the exhibit in the presence of the media and the Court’s Registrar.
