DCE faces vote of no confidence
Thirty-one (31) members of the Afigya Kwabre District Assembly have signed a resolution calling for a vote of no confidence in the District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire.
They are demanding that the Presiding Member convenes a general meeting within a week to decide the fate of the DCE.
A two-third majority vote of the 62-member Assembly can remove the DCE from office.
Signatories to the resolution accused Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku of corruption, flouting the procurement law, lack of involvement and disrespect for assembly members.
They alleged also that the DCE had bought two tipper trucks for the Assembly at a total cost of GH¢430,000 and that the transaction neither went through tender nor received the approval of the Assembly.
Additionally, they alleged he had been awarding contracts to cronies and without following laid down procedures for ensuring transparency and value for money.
Copies of the resolution had been sent to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and the Regional Electoral Commissioner.
