Government distributes 3500 mono desks to Obuasi schools

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has taken delivery of 3,500 mono desks for distribution to schools in the municipality.  This forms  part of government’s support to compliment the assembly’s efforts toward quality education delivery.

Mr. John Alexander Ackon, Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this at the second ordinary meeting of the first session of the Assembly at Obuasi said that AngloGold Ashanti was also embarking on schools rehabilitation and wall fencing in support of the Assembly’s development programmes in education.

“Mention must be made of AngloGold Ashanti who have bought into our development programmes and are undertaking rehabilitation of schools, starting at Anyinam Methodist Primary “B” and continuing with wall fencing at New Nsuta, Kwabena Fori and Awurade Basa Schools”, he said.

The Municipal Chief Executive said the Assembly on its part had embarked on massive rehabilitation of old schools and constructing new ones to improve the infrastructural state of schools in the Municipality.

“So far, rehabilitation works at Boete Primary, Awurade Basa JHS, Pomposo JHS, Obuasi Presby JHS, Kwabrafoso JHS and New Nsuta Primary and Kindergarten schools have been completed and new blocks are being built at Boete, Kokoteasua, Awona and Adaase”, he said.

Mr. Ackon noted that the assembly’s investments in education were yielding positive results as Obuasi had chalked another success in the 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“Our efforts at improving standards in education in the Municipality are on course.  In addition to our performance in the BECE over the years, this time I can emphatically say that Obuasi Senior High Technical School has also set the pace with an excellent performance this year, so also is Christ  The King Catholic Senior High School”, Mr. Ackon added.

The Municipal Chief Executive said the achievements in the education sector were not limited to academics alone but in the fields of sports and culture.

“First prize trophies won in these areas were presented to me at my office with the recent one being the national best HIV and AIDS Alert School Model won by the Obuasi Methodist JHS”.
