Regional Minister Woyongo breaks ground for construction of GH¢3.4m Kandiga-Sirigu road

Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, on Friday day broke grounds for the construction of a 10 kilometers stretch of road from Kandiga Junction to Sirigu in the Kassena Nankana East District.

According to the Minister, the two phased project which cost GH¢3,416,746, is to be undertaken by two contractors at five kilometres stretch each and would include tarring of the road and construction of 2000 metre drainage expected to be completed in a period of nine months.

He said the Government was committed to ensuring that all the rural areas had good roads for easy movement and access to the hinterland.

According to him, twelve roads would be rehabilitated under the shea-nut roads programme, five of which were already awarded on contract.

The remaining seven, he said, included the Kandiga-Sirigu, 4.8 kilometer road from Zebilla to Kansogo, surfacing of a 1.5 Kilometres stretch of the Bawku-Narongo and 0.16 km road to Gbantongo.

Other roads where spot improvements would be done include, Katiu, from Zebilla Market to Teshie in the Bawku west District and Garni to Zeo roads.

He was grateful to the Cocoa Marketing Board for extending their generosity to shea nut growing areas in the Region.

The Minister appealed to feeder road consultants to observe strict supervisory roles on the road projects to enable them stand the test of time, “so that we can have value for money”.

He assured communities whose roads were degraded during the rainy season that grading work would soon start on them.

The Minister also inspected an ongoing construction of a Bailey bridge at a cost of GH¢750,000 and the construction of culverts over a feeder road at another GH¢750,000, undertaken by separate contractors linking the Mirigu-Navrongo road.

He appealed to the contractors who still had some patch up works on the approaches of the bridge and the culverts to speed up work before the next rains.
