Asantehene donates GH¢20,000 to support Atanofo Education Fund
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, donated GH¢20,000.00 towards the establishment of Atanofo Education Endowment Fund, initiated by Bechem Traditional Council, to assist brilliant but needy school children in the area.
He made the donation at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Bechem Traditional Area in Tano South District of Brong-Ahafo, to climax a week-long maiden “Adekyem” Festival instituted by Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, Paramount chief Bechem.
The festival was organized on the theme: “Creating an Education Endowment Fund for Access to Quality Education and Development”.
It was the re-enactment and remembrance of the customary, traditional and cultural history of the people and “a celebration of the great contribution of Bechem towards the educational and agricultural development of Ghana”.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu said he would always defend the truth and that the only gift one could offer him “is the truth”.
He stressed that truth, honesty and transparency were vital for ensuring fairness in the adjudication of disputes to promote justice, peace, unity and progress in Ghana.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu expressed worry that some politicians interfered in chieftaincy cases and said it could undermine unity, peace and development.
He cautioned chiefs, especially those under his jurisdiction, not to indulge in active partisan politics and that any chief who wanted to engage in party politics must relinquish his stool.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu asked chiefs to promote truth, fairness and justice to protect chieftaincy.
The Asantehene commended the Bechem Traditional Council for promoting peace, education, development and pledged the continuous support of the Otumfuo Educational Charity Foundation for the Atanofo Educational Endowment Fund.
Nana Gyeabour Akoto said in the ancient times chiefs were assessed by the number of wars they fought but in modern times it is based on the number of development projects they bring to the people.
He called on the citizens to contribute financially towards the development of the area.
Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba, District Chief Executive for Tano South, called on Ghanaians to be tolerant during Election 2012.
He said homosexuality and lesbianism should not be encouraged in the country because the practices against Ghanaian customs and traditions.
Mr. Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, former Chief of Staff and Minister of Presidential Affairs, who represented former President John Agyekum Kufuor, donated GH¢1,000.00 while Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Member of Parliament for Techiman North, donated GH¢1000.00 on behalf of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, all to the council.
