Government to bring palm oil producers together to fortify products
Government is putting measures in place to bring small-scale palm oil producers together to fortify their products for the promotion of good health.
Mr Richard Odum Nyumuah, Project Manager of Food Fortification Project, announced this during a visit to the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC) at Kwae in the Kwaebibirem District on Tuesday.
He noted that palm oil being produced by small- scale producers lacked adequate Vitamins because of the process the product had to go through which was unwholesome.
Mr Nyumuah, who is a Board member of the Food and Drugs Board, said Government in 2006 put in measures to address issues of mal-nutrition in the country because some Ghanaians did not take enough fruits and vegetables.
He stated that the five-year programme was being sponsored by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition with about $17 million for five years.
Mr Gopi Kumar, Production Manager of the GOPDC, said that by 2012, the company would supply oil to Nestle Ghana Limited, and that GOPDC had started supplying Nestle Senegal with fortified oil.
