Dutch-based NGO constructs sports complex at Ntronang
Big Step Foundation, a Netherlands based non-governmental organization (NGO) has constructed a GH¢34,000 sports complex at Akyem Ntronang in the Birim North District to promote the lesser known sports.
The facility comprises volleyball, handball, basketball courts and a football pitch.
Mr Samuel Anie-Amoah, the Director of Big Step Foundation, who inaugurated the facility on Wednesday, noted that the poor performance of sportsmen and women at the international level was due to lack of training grounds and other facilities in the communities to enhance adequate training avenues for the youth.
He therefore advised the youth to take active interest in the lesser known sport since they have international potentials and other financial benefits and urged them not to concentrate on only football and boxing.
Mr Anie-Amoah disclosed that the NGO has also constructed a number of computer training centres at Adausena, New Abirem, Kotokuom, Ntronang and Akoase all in the District stocked computers to enhance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies in the communities.
In an address read on his behalf, the District Director of Education, Mr Eric Atakora commended the NGO for the gesture.
He urged the youth and school children to make effective use of the facility.
