Northern Region launches Policy Fair
The Minister of Information, Mr John Akologo Tia on Monday launched the Northern Regional Policy Fair in Tamale, aimed at showcasing the activities and programmes as well as policies of the ruling government.
The fair, which would be officially opened on December 14 to December 17, would be attracting exhibitors from the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies as well as government departments and non-governmental organisations, to sell their polices to the public.
The Regional fair which is the third in the series, after Ashanti and Volta Regions, is expected to be opened by Vice President John Dramani Mahama on the theme: “Empowering the people as we build a better Ghana.”
Mr Tia in said the overriding objective of the policy fair is to create the right avenue for the people of the region to seek the right information and be part of the policies to achieve the ‘Better Ghana agenda’’.
He said it was part of the government’s desire to run an open, transparent and accountable government that would be at the door steps of the people, adding; “the policy is much wider in scope than the meet the press series”.
He urged the people to analyse and critique some of the policy initiatives of the government and departments to serve as a feedback to the implementers of the policies for them to seek the best for the people.
Mr Tia noted that lessons from the first policy fair in 2009, coupled with the enthusiasm demonstrated by Ghanaians, the President had directed that the policy fair should be an annual affair and also to be decentralised to the regional levels.
He said in compliance with the directive given by the President, another successful National Policy Fair was organised in Accra in April this year and as result, the first and the second Regional Policy Fairs were organised in Ho and Kumasi.
He explained that to make the event more interactive, there would be a dialogue session where participants will dissect important national developmental issues concerning the Northern Region.
Mr San Nasamu Asabigi, Deputy Regional Minister encouraged the assemblies and other governmental institutions and agencies to participate in the fair, saying that it is mandatory.
He assured the public that the Regional Policy Fair is going to be the best of the other regions and urged them to participate fully.
