Volta River Authority donates power quality analyser to KNUST
The Volta River Authority (VRA), on Monday donated a compact three phase power quality analyser, to the authorities of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The equipment which is shock resistant for field management is valued at 7,215.50 euros.
Mr Kweku Andoh Awotwi, Chief Executive Officer of VRA, who presented the equipment, said both institutions had long standing relationship of beneficial collaboration.
He expressed the hope that the equipment would benefit the KNUST saying, “We know you have good students who could make good use of the equipment”.
Professor Mohammed Salifu, Acting Provost, College of Engineering, KNUST, who received the equipment, said it would be of immense help in teaching and research work.
He urged other organisations to emulate the VRA, adding: “What we really need is not criticisms but assistance that would ensure that quality students are churned out from the KNUST.”
The equipment is used in recording and profiling power consumption patterns of consumers and suitable for energy conservation and power quality applications.
It would enable students appreciate phasors in AC Three Phase Power Systems, determination of harmonics and power quality parameters and improve instrumentation capability for the University’s Consultancy and Industrial Research Unit.
