New security wall for Ankaful prison
The Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Prisons Service has constructed a new security wall to replace an old weak one at the Ankaful Communicable Disease prisons.
The project financed by the Government and constructed by Messrs Borsah Company Limited with the AESL as consultants was commissioned on Tuesday at a brief ceremony at the premises of the prisons.
Mr Richard Osei-Amanfo, Central Regional Engineer of the AESL, said the new wall had been raised higher than the old one to reinforce security at the prison.
Superintendent Osumane Alhaji Tasenbedo, the officer in charge of the Communicable Disease Prisons, said the old wall constructed in 1975 became so weak that some prisoners used it to escape.
He said currently there are 66 inmates and with the construction of the wall, officers at the prison will now feel safe to carry out their duties.
