Court convicts driver for using wrong driving license
A Tamale Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Abu Fali Umar 26, to 12 months imprisonment and a GH¢3,000 fine or in default face additional 12 months prison term for driving an articulated truck with a category ‘B’ license.
The owner of the vehicle, Baba Hadi 38, who appeared in the same court has also been fined GH¢3,000 and in default face 12 months in prison for abetment of crime.
Umar pleaded guilty for driving with an unqualified driving license and Hadi for abetment of crime.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector John Andoh Kantinka told the court presided over by Mr Senyo Amedahe, that on December 7, Umar was driving an articulated truck loaded with quantities of PBC pipes and heading to Burkina Faso.
He said on reaching the Tamale Airport Junction, along the Tamale-Bolgatanga Highway, he was stopped by the Tamale Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service who inspected his driving license and noticed that Umar was driving with a temporary license category ‘B’.
The prosecutor said Umar was arrested and processed for court on December 8 and was remanded.
