Court fines driver GH¢1,800 for traffic offences
The Senchi District Magistrate Court presided over Sulemana Musah, has fined Mr Emmanuel Apazo, a 20-year-old driver GH¢1,800.00 for driving without a valid driving license and road worthy certificates.
Apazo would serve a year in prison in default.
The Akosombo Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendant of Police Richard Akwasi Yeboah said the convict was arrested by the Police Patrol team who mounted an exercise to ensure accident-free yuletide in Lower Manya, Yilo Krobo, Kpong and Atimpoku roads.
The windscreen of Apazo vehicle was also seriously damaged.
ASP Yeboah said a driver of the Volta River Authority who nearly hit a policeman in a bid to avoid arrest, has been arrested and slapped with a GH¢300.00 by the Magistrate Court or in default serve six months in imprisonment.
The driver, David Tsigbe was also bonded to be of good behaviour for one year.
In another development ASP Yeboah has announced the names of drivers who failed to appear before the Senchi Court and have been issued with bench warrants.
They are Nartey Kwesi Driver of GE 2774 Y, Yakubu Fudu, vehicle number GE1681 X.
The others are Okle Jowel Driver of vehicle number AS 8506 P, Abraham Nartey with vehicle number GR 9608 Q and Egyiri Thomas Driver of vehicle number GE 8024-11.
ASP Yeboah said during the first quarter of the year the traffic offences at the Court bagged a total fine of GH¢15,752.00 imposed on drivers. He added that due to the intensive police patrols within his jurisdiction few accidents were recorded.
