Throw away excess baggage of 2011 – Rev David Ocansey
Reverend David Nartey Ocansey, Head Pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of the Ghana Baptist Convention, on Sunday called on Christians to throw away excess baggage of 2011, such as failures, disappointments and hurts.
He said the practice of negative thinking, nagging, bad social groupings, willful and habitual sins and unproductive attitudes had now become the order of day.
Rev Ocansey was delivering a sermon on the topic: ‘Running to Win’ to usher his congregation into the New Year in Accra.
He said Jesus is the Alpha and Omega and there was the need for us as Christians to focus on Him in the New Year.
“Let’s us commit ourselves to Jesus Christ and asked for his kindness and mercy and also grace… and thanks giving, as we celebrate the first day of the New Year….”
Rev Ocansey, who is also the General Secretary of the Ghana Baptist Convention noted “Christianity calls for discipline and self-control. Christ our savior is our perfect example in endurance training.”
“It was a great opportunity to enter the New Year with peace, love and joy and we should give thanks to God for giving us that opportunity”.
God, he said, does not need anything from us than our purified hearts to worship him and thanked him.
He said Christians and for that matter Ghanaians had to value the progress Ghana was making and appreciate the peace, security and joy.
“Since 1992 God has spared Ghanaians with tribal and political wars and we still prayed for his continues blessings and his positive direction as we enter an election Year.
Rev Ocansey called on politicians to temper their language with decorum.
“We as Christians would not rest in prayers, adding all men of the gospel should not rest in prayers…”
He called on Government, the Electoral Commission and all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to ensure the 2012 elections became free, fair and transparent.
Rev David Ocansey is also the Assistant General Secretary of the All African Baptist Convention.
