“Stay Cool Plus” sachet water unsafe – Food and Drugs Board
The Eastern and Volta Zonal office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Wednesday declared as unsafe, products of Elite Volta, producers of “Stay Cool Plus” sachet water in Ho.
The Company and its offices were subsequently closed down for non-compliance with sanitary regulations until the FDB was satisfied with its working environment and production processes.
Mr Roderick Daddey-Adjei, Zonal Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that Elite Volta had worked without any medical record for the whole of 2011 and was not observing good manufacturing practices.
“The environment under which water is processed and bagged for human consumption here is very bad and we cannot allow it,” Mr Daddey-Adjei said.
He said the FDB was receiving daily reports on sachet water in the Zonal area and reiterated the resolve of the Office to identify and take action on companies found liable.
He said Mr Edwin Kugbey, Managing Director of Elite Volta, allegedly impeded officials of the FDB from destroying products found to be unsafe and left the premises of the Company yesterday only when the police had arrived.
