Ghana FA fines, bans football administrator
The Ethics Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fined and banned the President of premier league side New Edubiase, Abdul Salam Yakubu for making unethical comments against referee Eric Owusu Mensah and another league club Berekum Chelsea.
The FA said Abdul Salam Yakubu was found guilty, handed a fine and banned for making allegations on an Accra-based radio station – Happy FM, accusing Berekum Chelsea F.C of using referee Mensah as conduit to bribing other referees involved in handling their matches.
“Mr. Abdul Salam Yakubu is fined GH¢2000.00 and suspended from attending four (4) consecutive league matches for bringing the reputation of Mr. Eric Owusu Mensah and Berekum Chelsea into disrepute,” the GFA said on it website January 4, 2012.
At the ethics committee hearing, the FA said Mr. Abdul Salam Yakubu admitted making the comments and claimed he had evidence adding he was given every chance to substantiate his allegation but “the allegation made was based on suspicions and without merit.”
