MTN to invest at least $1b in Nigeria to improve network services

MTN Group says it will be spending more than $1 billion in Nigeria to make their network services better in the country, according to a Bloomberg report January 4, 2011.

This comes at a time when the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is demanding better services from mobile operators failing which they would be stopped from registering new subscribers.

“The investment will relieve congestion and improve the quality of the network,” Akinwale Goodluck, a spokesman for MTN Nigeria told Bloomberg adding that the funds will be directed towards second and third-generation technologies, MTN’s core network, and power generators to run transmission stations.
