Ketu-South has potential for economic transformation – Malaysian High Commissioner

Mr Tan Cheekeong, Acting Malaysian High Commissioner to Ghana, has said the Ketu-South District of the Volta Region has the potential to propel its economic transformation.

He said the area held good prospects for vegetable and fish farming, salt production and with lots of tourism development opportunities.

Mr Cheekeong made the observation after a tour of the area, at the invitation of Mr Fredrick Alipui, an economist and one of the nine National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2012 Ketu-South Parliamentary aspirants.

The diplomat’s trip was to identify areas in which Malaysia could attract its entrepreneurs to invest in the District especially, in they could Build Operate and Transfer (BOT).

Mr Cheekeong said apart from the lagoon holding a major aqua culture industry, the small islands dotting it could be developed into bird sanctuaries.

The Acting High Commissioner, who also paid courtesy calls on traditional rulers, said he would discuss his observations with the relevant Malaysian institutions and authorities.

Mr Alipui, who is championing the Ketu-South Lagoon Restoration Project, said all local potentials should be tapped to create jobs and income for the Youth.
