CPP elders should resolve problems in the party – Former Chairman

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP), Mr Samuel Kwabena Danso, has appealed to the elders of the party to engage the national executives to efficiently manage the fall-out of the resignation of its 2008 Flag-bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom.

He said they should act with some urgency to restore internal calm and build confidence and warned that resorting to victimization or witch-hunt would not enhance the progress of the Party but rather create divisions and stagnation.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, Mr Danso said although it was undeniable that the departure of Dr Nduom could pose a threat to the party’s unity and cohesion, there is no doubt that with tact and level-headedness, CPP could survive the storm.

He was not comfortable with the decision by the national executives to interdict and investigate the Ashanti Chairman and some others accused of trying to lure members to Dr Nduom’s Progressive Peoples Party (PPP).

Mr Danso said it should not be lost on anyone that multi-party democracy was about numbers and therefore the best thing to do in the present situation was to dialogue and search for a common ground.

He cautioned that if the party’s hierarchy did not work hard to unite and reconcile the members, the CPP could be heading for doom.

Mr Danso urged members and supporters of the Party to remain loyal and work together to build the CPP into a strong and vibrant party to fight the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
