Do not use assemble motor bicycles for political campaigns -Yendi MCE

The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Issah Zakaria, has cautioned Assembly members not to use motor bicycles allocated to them by the Assembly for political campaigns.

He said the motorbikes are to be used to generate revenue and to educate their electorates on government programmes and policies.

According to the MCE, Election 2012 is just at the corner and Assembly members should think of Assembly first and how to initiate more development projects in their electoral areas.

Mr. Zakaria was presenting 50 motor bicycles to the elected Assembly members of the Yendi Municipal Assembly of Northern Region.

He indicated that the Assembly placed an order for 73 motor bicycles to be allocated to both elected Assembly members and Government Appointees of the Assembly but unfortunately, 52 were allocated to the Assembly.

He assured the government appointees that very soon the contractor will deliver the rest of the motorbikes meant for them.

Mr. Zakaria commended the Assembly members for their patience and their contribution towards the success of the Assembly’s development programmes.

He said for record purposes all the motorbikes had been registered and that riders should always wear their crash helmets.

He thanked the NDC government for fulfilling its promise of purchasing motor bicycles for all the 170 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies nationwide to be allocated to  Assembly members.

He announced that the Assembly has taken delivery of a large quantity of materials for the Yendi township streets lights project and that the contractor will commence work soon.

He stated that the contractor to work on the Yendi – Bimbilla 70 Kilometre road will also start work as early as possible as the Northern Region Rural Electrification Programme is just about to begin.
