Injured Gyan in Ghana final Afcon squad but local league top scorer out

Ghana named its final 23-man squad for the upcoming African Nations Cup January 11, 2012 . The list included striker Asamoah Gyan who is suffering from an injury.

The Ghana FA explains that the player was included because he was making progress on the injury.

“Striker Asamoah Gyan has been included in the squad, having made good progress on the injury he suffered last month,” the FA said on its website.

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic named a pre-tournament squad of 25 players but was cut down by two. Emmanuel Baffour, leading goal scorer in the Ghana Premier league and Derek Asamoah who plays in South Korean top flight were those excluded from the list.

The full squad:

Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Adjei, Ernest Sowah.

Defenders: Samuel Inkoom, John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Masawudu Alhassan, Lee Addy, John Boye, John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Isaac Vorsah

Midfielders: Charles Takyi, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan, Mohammed Abu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew

Strikers: Prince Tagoe, Asamoah Gyan, Jordan Ayew.
