MTTU to crackdown on illegal car washing bays in Ho
The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in Ho would soon crackdown on illegal car washing bays in the Ho Township.
Car and vehicle owners who patronize these unauthorized washing bays also risk having their vehicles seized and prosecuted, together with the washing bay operators.
These measures have become necessary to curtail pedestrian knock downs and damage to roads on which such washing bays are located.
Mr Frederick Senanu Lumor, Volta Regional MTTU Commander gave the hint in an interview with the GNA on Tuesday.
He noted that the upsurge of washing bays, especially on the edges of the town roads, was becoming an eyesore and a major cause of motor accidents in the municipality.
“A total of 52 pedestrians were knocked down by vehicles last year and we cannot allow such avoidable accidents to happen and,” Mr Lumor stated.
In a related development, Mr Lumor said the Unit recorded a total of 615 motor traffic offences in the year 2011.
He said 445 of the cases were sent to court and 297 drivers convicted.
Mr Lumor said three drivers were acquitted and discharged, and that 126 cases were still before court, whilst 111 cases were under investigations.
He said 56 drivers were also given warning letters.
