GIFEC donates 360 computers to 24 vocational institutions

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) on Tuesday presented 360 computers to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for distribution to 24 Community Development Vocational Institutions (CDVI).

The facilities are meant to improve the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The beneficiary institutions include, Bongo CDVI, Tamale CDVI, Bolgatanga CDVI, Wa CDVI, Navrongo CDVI, Bechem CDVI, Kpong CDVI, Kintampo CDVI, Nsoatre CDVI, Sunyani CDVI, Panfokrom CDVI, Kibi CDVI, Bekwai CDVI, Agona CDVI, Kwamo CDVI, Suhum CDVI, and Sekondi CDVI.

The rest are Ho CDVI, Axim CDVI, Tarkwa CDVI, Madina CDVI, Prampram CDVI, Kete Krachi Community Development Vocational and Technical Institution, and Sunyani  Community Development Technical Institution.

Mr Kofi Attor, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC who presented the computers noted that the way forward for teaching and learning in any institution was through ICT, and it should be prioritised at all levels of education.

He said GIFEC as a government agency had the mandate to make electronic communication accessible to all especially majority of the people in the rural areas where private investors would not want to venture.

Mr Attor said a major aspect of the agency is to provide educational institutions with high speed computers, printers, scanners, projectors and servers as well as link them to the internet.

Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who received the computers, expressed appreciation to GIFEC for the support, saying it is a laudable initiative.
