WANEP establishes Early Warning Systems in Western Region

Mr Justin Bayor, National Network Coordinator of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana), has said the organization has established Early Warning Systems in five conflict hotspots in the Western Region.

The hotspots are Sefwi Wiawso, Teleko Bokazo. Bonyere, Princes Town and Akatakyie and Apremdo where conflicts including chieftaincy disputes are brewing, he said.

Mr Bayor said this when speaking at a one-day Western Regional Interface Meeting of the WANEP-Ghana at Takoradi.

Representatives from Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Security Services, Opinion leaders and the media attended the meeting.

Mr Bayor said the Early Warning Systems formed part of the Ghanawarn, a network of communities and people working for early detection and response to conflicts.

He said the Ghanawarn is to ensure peace, security and development in communities and the country as a whole.

Mr Bayor said situation reports are internet based and cover other areas such as accidents, armed attacks and suicide.

Ms Melody Azinim, Programme Officer of WANEP-Ghana, said peacebuilding is relationship building and it requires a collaborative effort to achieve this.
