GES to promote education in Garu-Tempane
The Garu-Tempane District Education Directorate in the Upper East Region, has initiated measures to address low standards of education in the area.
Supervisors of schools would be provided with motorbikes, fuel and logistics to facilitate their work.
Mr. Emmanuel Zumakpeh, District Director of Education, who said these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Garu the district capital, said schools lack qualified teachers, text books, adequate educational infrastructure such as classrooms, desks among others.
He expressed worry that the district recorded low performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) last year.
Mr. Zumakpeh said some schools recorded high enrollment because of the School Feeding Programme and distribution of school uniforms to school children free of charge.
He asked parents to be interested in the education of their children so that they could acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. David Adakurugu, advised school children to take their studies seriously and reminded them that education is the bedrock for national development.
Mr. Adakugrugu said Government provided educational infrastructure and established the School Feeding Programme and other interventions to promote education in the country.
