Market women trained on good business practices

The Department of Women acting in partnership with the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI), has organized a business management workshop for some selected traders as part of efforts at helping them to adopt best practices.

It brought together more than 50 participants drawn mainly from the Kumasi Central Market.

They were among other things exposed to basic skills in bookkeeping, stock taking and customer relations.

Mr Benson Adjei, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Officer of the BAC, said the goal was to aid them to grow their businesses.

He noted that cash flow and control management were essential for the survival and expansion of any business.

This was why traders needed to have firm grasp of the techniques for achieving these.

He asked them to take advantage of the BAC services for expert advice to boost their performance.

He encouraged the traders to form co-operatives to enable them to access credit from the financial institutions to expand their businesses.

Mrs Augustina Gyamfi, acting Ashanti Regional Director of the Department, said there should be no illusion about their determination to empower women to become economically self-supporting.

The Department would continue to organize such programmes for women engaged in trading and other income-generating activities including dress-makers and hairdressers.
