Three in court for stealing 17 bags dried cocoa beans

Three persons charged with conspiracy, stealing and dishonestly receiving 17 bags of cocoa beans estimated at GH¢4,010, have appeared before the Akim Swedru Circuit Court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong.

Kwame Akete Aboagye, 45, and Albert Adogo, 42, both farmers have been charged with conspiracy and stealing.

Aboagye has been admitted to a GH¢2,000 bail and Adogo is also on a GH¢6,000 bail.

Kwadwo Bronya, 50, Akim Anamase based cocoa purchasing clerk, charged with dishonestly receiving, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢4,000.

All the three accused persons pleaded not guilty to their respective offences and are expected to report back to court on January 31.

Four accomplices – One Kudjo, Yaw Maakole, Kwabena Kumi and Kwabena Champion have absconded.

Detective Inspector Kinsley Antwi said Mr Yaw Boadi, the complainant is a purchasing clerk of Transroyal Ghana Limited, a cocoa buying company at Atiankama Nkwanta, Aboagye, a farmer and Adogo, a farmer cum labourer of another cocoa buying company and that all of them live at Asuboa.

He said on December 13 last year Mr Boadi detected that padlocks on the doors of the cocoa shed have been broken and 17 bags of dried cocoa beans stolen.

Inspector Antwi said the police moved to Akim Anamase where the stolen bags of beans were found, Bronya told the police that on December 17, 2011 Aboagye and Adogo sold the cocoa beans valued GH¢2,696 to him and had made part payment of Gh¢96.

He said in the presence of the police, Bronya called Aboagye and Adogo to Anamase to collect the rest of their money and were arrested when they showed up.
