Farmer in court for stealing cocoa beans
The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has sentenced one Charles Kwabena Debrah, a farmer, to three years imprisonment for stealing cocoa beans worth GH¢300.
Debrah pleaded guilty to stealing.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong, that the convict and one Mr George Bebzrah, a farmer and the complainant, both live at Akim Abenase.
He said the complainant had been detecting the stealing of his cocoa beans, and that, on December 11, last year, the complainant’s cocoa beans, which were dried at his farm were stolen.
Mr Bebzrah therefore informed a Cocoa Purchasing Clerk (P/C) in the area about the missing beans. Debrah, later sent some quantity of cocoa beans worth GHC60 to the P/C and promised to bring more later.
The prosecutor said the clerk then sent for Mr Bebzrah to come and inspect and identify the beans, which Mr Bebzrah confirmed were from his farm and made a report to the Unit Committee.
Inspector Appiah said the convict was then arrested and handed over to the police.
