Ghana player Anthony Annan loses mother
Madam Sophia Sampson, mother of Ghanaian midfielder Anthony Annan has passed away, according to information gathered by ghanabusinessnews.com.
Madam Sampson was said to have died in an unnamed hospital late Thursday February 2, 2012.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it is saddened about the death of Annan’s mum.
“Our thoughts are with Anthony, his family and relatives on this very sad day for us. We have spoken with Anthony and his family in Ghana to offer our support at this difficult time,” said FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi in a statement published on the association’s website.
Annan is currently with the Black Stars squad playing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations but “has decided not to go home until the end of the tournament,” according to the FA.
“As Anthony has decided not to leave the Nations Cup to go home, the GFA, the coaches, players and staff will continue to offer him our constant support,” said the FA.
