Driver’s mate remanded for stealing 400 pieces of lumber

Christian Totime, a driver’s mate who conspired with his driver, Kwabena Donkor, now at large, to convey 400 pieces of lumber valued GH¢3,000 belonging to Madam Joyce Dzotiashie, has been remanded in police custody by the Akim Oda magistrate court.

Donkor is on the run.

The court presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor did not take the plea of Totime and he would reappear on February 16.

Detective Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court that Madam Dzotiashie, is a lumber dealer at Akim Oda and on February 5 hired Totime and Donkor  to convey lumber from a village near Ofoase to Akim Oda.

On the way the driver told her the vehicle was short of fuel and requested her to provide some to enable them continue the journey.

Inspector Appiah said when the fuel was provided, the driver and the mate told her the vehicle had developed a fault and that she should offload the 400 pieces of lumbers from the vehicle to enable them to go and fix the fault.

Madam Dzotiashie left to look for another vehicle but when she came back with the vehicle to offload the lumber, the first vehicle together with the lumber was nowhere to be found.

A report was made to the police and Totime was arrested but Donkor  ran away when he saw the police.
