Zambia edges Ghana, cruises to Afcon finals

Zambia will clash with Ivory Coast at the grand finale of the 2012 Afcon after beating Ghana 1-0 in a semi-final match in Bata.

Zambia’s goal came through an 80th minute strike from Emmanuel Mayuka.

Ghana’s striker Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty-kick in the 8th minute in the first half when Kwadwo Asamoah was fouled in the Zambian box.

This is the second time that Gyan has missed a crucial penalty for the Ghana team. The first was against Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup when the striker missed a deciding penalty by hitting the cross-bar.

Despite the Black Stars’ dominance over their Zambian counterparts, they failed to equalise.

The Black Stars will now battle for a third or fourth place. Its been exactly 30 years since the Stars lifted the trophy.

Zambia will meet Ivory Coast, who beats Mali 1-0, at the finals on Sunday February 12, 2012.

Ivory Coast’s goal was scored by Arsenal star Gervinho.

Why do they say ZAMBIA EDGED THE BLACKSTARS? when are you people going toaccept defeat? just write, BLACKSTARS HUMBLED BY CHIPOLOPOLO it will make a meaningful heading. As for ivory coast, they are big but not agile, we play our southern africa soccer, they play theirs.

  7. people blame Gyan for loss. That’s not fair. The boy didn’t nothing wrong deliberately. In the game football one wins. Hence it was time for chipolopolo to win. Infact the players tried all they could but the win was for zambia.Don’t blame one person for the loss, just encourage boys to win Mali to be on third position. Lastly Solomon Kaluo you are real man. Keep it up!!

Those of you under rating Zambia will be shocked on sunday. You are forgetting that Zambia is a great footballing nation. Chipolopolo are just claiming for their rightful place. I can assure you that you will be disappointed because Zambia is winning. Ivory Coast has ‘big stars’ but Zambia has the will to win. It is David vs Goliath. Chipolopolo iye!!
