CEO of MCC, Daniel Yohannes to mark completion of Ghana’s $547m compact
The Chief Executive Officer of the US-run Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Mr Daniel W. Yohannes will be in Ghana to mark the completion of the country’s MCC compact of $547 million on February 15, 2012, an official at the corporation has said.
Officials say Mr. Yohannes will officially open the N1 road – the Tetteh Quarshie to Mallam, built with funds from the MCC.
“Yes, Mr. Yohannes will be in Ghana for the ceremony,” Gina Jackson, Press Secretary, Congressional and Public Affairs at the MCC told ghanabusinessnews.com in an email February 10, 2012.
Mr Yohannes has also confirmed his travel to Ghana on his MCC blog. He writes “I am preparing to travel to Africa this month to sign MCC’s compact with Cape Verde and to mark the completion of Ghana’s MCC compact.”
“Such milestone events in these countries will serve as opportunities to see MCC’s approach to innovation, technology and country-owned development strategies in action,” he stated.
Ghana’s President, Professor John Atta Mills is also expected to participate in the ceremony.
Ghana, in August 2006, signed for the five-year compact which came into force February 16, 2007. The agricultural sector was the main focus followed by the transportation sector as well as rural development.
