Kufuor meets Gordon Brown

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Friday, had a breakfast meeting with Former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown during which they talked about their times in office and the activities they are engaged in since the end of their tenure.

Mr Kufuor praised Brown for his assistance in securing £46 million Sterling for free maternal health care for women which has contributed to the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme during his presidency.

He also thanked Mr Brown for his support in resolving the Kenyan crisis in 2008 which initiative he undertook as chairman of the African Union.

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson at the Office of Former President Kufuor.

Premier Brown commended President Kufuor for his leadership qualities which helped to bring stability and development in Africa adding that the many projects he was involved in after leaving office was testimony to the high esteem that he was held across the world.

He pledged support to the John A. Kufuor Foundation and invited President Kufuor to be part of a select group of Former Heads of State and Governments that he is putting together to help find remedies to the problem of lack of access to education in deprived parts of the world.

President Kufuor arrived in London last Tuesday and has since held talks with government officials, and Members of Parliament as well as the Pro-rector and senior staff of the Imperial College and executives of the Partnership for Child Development, an international non-governmental organisation.

He was also guest speaker at a forum on – “Linking Local Agriculture, Nutrition and Education: Innovations to Improve Food Security,” attended by members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture and Food for Development at the British Parliament.
