Extend electricity to 500 rural communities in Northern Region – Regent
The regent of Dagbon, Kapankuya Na-Yakubu Abdulai Andani has called on the government to extend electricity to the 500 communities in the Northern Region.
The Regent said a number of people in the region call on him at his palace to remind the Regional Coordinating Council and the government to extend electricity supply to the communities.
Regent Kapankuya Na Abdulai Andani made the call when the Northern Regional Minister Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Yendi.
He said a community like Bonbonayili and other large communities are badly in need of electricity for the health sector services and other sectors.
He therefore asked the MMDCEs to ensure that the programme takes off.
Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba stated that everything about the extension of electricity to the rural communities in the region is on course.
He said a meeting to discuss issues affecting the people in the region would be held soon, and that, important matters like the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road.
Mr Mabengba said the Vice President, Mr John Mahama has been able to negotiate for an amount of 250 million US dollars from the Government of Brazil to support the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road from Damango through Bimbilla, Yendi and beyond.
He thanked the Regent, chiefs and people of the region for helping the Regional Coordinating Council to sustain the peace in the area. He appealed to the Regent and all the chiefs in the region to help in sustaining the peace during the December 2012 elections.
The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Issah Zakaria said the relative peace they continue to enjoy in Yendi and its environs is as a result of the commitment and dedication of members of the Security Council.
Mr Zakaria said the economic life of the people has significantly improved as people go about their business without hindrance.
The chairman of the Northern Region MMDCEs, Alhaji Issah Abah assured the Regent that they would ensure peace and development in the region.
