World Bank awards seven African women scholarships for advanced study
Seven African women have been awarded scholarships by the World Bank to pursue or continue graduate studies at South African universities.
The Bank said the winners are studying in a variety of fields, from anthropology to rural and social development and the scholarships will enable the awardees to pursue or continue advanced studies at masters and doctoral levels at the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town.
The women are Boipelo Freude, Botswana; Chewachong Patience Meninkele Epouse Akih, Cameroon; Makondo Miyoba Kabinga, Zambia; Sandra Sherila Jatoonah, Mauritius; Taatsu Petrina Kapewangolo, Namibia; Vuledzani Ndanganeni, South Africa and Kefiloe Sello, Lesotho.
The scholarships were made possible through the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund, established in 1981 to help women from developing countries further their education, said the World Bank.
The Fund honors the memory of the late Margaret McNamara, wife of late World Bank President Robert S. McNamara.
