Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has today February 17, 2012 been named the new ECOWAS Chairman. He takes over from his colleague Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria.
“We have unanimously agreed that the President of Cote d’Ivoire Alassane Quattara would take over as Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government,” President Goodluck Jonathan is quoted by Reuters as telling reporters at the end of a two day ECOWAS summit in the Nigerian capital Abuja.
