Stakeholders discuss falling standards of education in Kassena Nankana district
A forum to address the falling standards of education in the Kassena Nankana East District (KNED) was held on Friday in Navrongo.
The forum that attracted teachers, assembly members, parents, School Management Committees members and students, discussed education on in the area, on the theme, “Addressing the Falling Standards of Education in the Kassena Nankana District- the Role of the Stakeholder”.
Mr Emmanuel Andema, District Chief Executive of Kassena Nankana said the forum sought to find practical strategies to address the problems of continual failures of students at the Basic Examination Certificate Examinations (BECE).
He said 53.3 per cent of candidates passed the BECE in 2009 and 32.7 per cent in 2010 and 29.1 per cent in 201, and appealed to stakeholders in education in the area to help find solutions to the problem.
Mrs Lucy Awuni, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, said Government was worried about the low standards of education in the northern part of the country and was taking steps to improve teaching and learning in the area.
