Dr. Afari Gyan - Electoral Commissioner

The Electoral Commission (EC) is to conduct  two pilot biometric registration exercises in the Eastern Region between February 25 and 29 to test the various arrangements made for the main exercise.

The exercise would be conducted in one registration centre in an urban area and another in a rural area.

For the urban area, the Nursing Training School Registration Centre in the New Juaben Municipality had been chosen, whilst the Akyem Abenase Presby Primary School Registration Centre in the Akyemmansa District had been selected for the rural area.

Mr Eric Mensah- Bonsu, the Deputy Eastern Regional Director of the EC, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua on Monday.

He explained that the exercise was to enable the EC to test all that they had planned to put in place for the main registration exercise, which had been scheduled for March 24 to May 5, this year.

Mr Mensah-Bonsu said the main registration exercise would be conducted in clusters adding that four registration centres would benefit from one Registration Kit which includes all the various accessories for the biometric registration exercise.

He said the accessories include cameras, scanners to capture finger prints and other equipment to capture other information required for the biometric registration exercise.
