Seed Producers calls for formation of Seed Council
Members of the Seed Producers Association of Ghana have called on government to form the Seed Council for the smooth implementation of the seed law.
They said Government should also appoint the National Seed Technical Advisory Committee and swear the members into office for the discharge of the Seed and Fertilizer Act 803 to improve the agricultural sector.
Osafo Patrick Apullah, Vice President of the Association in an interview with the Ghana News Agency explained that if the two bodies were put in place, some serious attention would be paid to the agricultural sector to create more jobs for the youth.
He called on government to prioritise agriculture activities and resource research institutions to carry out research work into crop and animal husbandry.
He said similar attention should also be given to forestry development to help address the effects of climate change that was causing food insecurity in some parts of the country.
Osafo Apullah said farmers in the northern regions had their hopes on the implementation of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), and that government must resource it to meet their aspirations.
Osafo Apullah commended government for subsidizing seed for farmers to increase food production.
