Thirty receive skill enhancement under LESDEP in Birim North

Thirty beneficiaries under the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) on Tuesday ended a five-day refresher course at New Abirem in the Birim North District.

The beneficiaries included dressmakers, beauticians, barbers and caterers.

The training was to equip them with the requisite entrepreneurship skills and new trends in their vocations.

The District Chief Executive, Ms. Mavis Ama Frimpong said the programme was part of President Mills’ “Better Ghana” agenda aimed at assisting the beneficiaries to sharpen their skills and at the same time help them to expand their businesses.

She announced that tools and equipment in the various trades and vocations had been secured by the government and would be given to them at affordable prices to be repaid over a period of time.

Ms Frimpong advised them not to sell the tools when they take possession of them but rather used them for their benefit and the society at large.

She stressed that selection of the beneficiaries was not based on party affiliations, but rather spread across the various communities such as New and Old Abirem, Nyafoman, Bepotumtum, Nkwanteng and Mamanso.

The District LESDEP Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Odzeyem, announced that as many people as possible would be trained to ensure quality service to clients.

He urged school leavers, who are unemployed to take advantage of the numerous programmes under LESDEP to learn a trade.
