Government commended for sustaining National Health Insurance Scheme
The Government has been commended for mastering the political will to sustain the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) initiated by the previous administration.
Mr David Papa Nii Arhin, Assemblyman for Odupong Ofaankor Electoral Area, who gave the commendation, explained that the move is in the right direction because the objective of the policy to safeguard the health needs of especially the vulnerable, is laudable.
“We need greater political will such this example in order to nurture critical national programmes in a way which would be of immense benefit to the people,” he said.
Mr Annan, who was addressing NHIS beneficiaries in his electoral area at Ofaankor near Kasoa, therefore, urged Ghanaians to encourage similar actions by successive administrations to foster concrete national development.
He described the NHIS Policy “as the most workable single social intervention to provide greater relief to many Ghanaians irrespective of their social, economic, political and religious affiliation.”
Mr Annan, therefore, advised Ghanaians, particularly premium holders of the scheme, to cooperate with the Government in its efforts at renewing their ID cards on time.
He advised residents who had not registered with the scheme to take advantage of the special registration exercise the Awutu-Efutu-Senya (AESMHIS) area branch of the NHIA organises every three months to embrace the policy.
Mr Arhin thanked the management of AESMHIS for ensuring that most of the people who registered in the Odupong/Ofaankor electoral area in last quarter of 2011 got their NHIS ID cards on time.
