Ofosu Ampofo is afraid of NPP in Fanteakwa – Akufo Addo
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development was afraid to contest the NPP in Fanteakwa, hence his decision to contest the Tema West seat.
He has therefore appealed to the NPP supporters not to be complacent, but work harder to retain the seat as well as to increase the votes both at the parliamentary and the presidential polls to demonstrate the party’s superiority in Fanteakwa.
Nana Akufo-Addo said this at a rally over the weekend to launch the Fanteakwa constituency campaign of the party for election 2012 at Begoro.
He said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had nothing good for the people of Ghana, looking at the unbearable hardships Ghanaians are experiencing.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the NDC government seemed to be taking Ghana backwards instead of implementing policies that would help improve the living standard of the people.
The NPP flag bearer said the national health insurance scheme was currently in limbo, making it difficult for the poor to access good healthcare.
He said that good policies by a political party yielded positive results and impact on the lives of the people, hence the many social interventions introduced by the NPP government led by President John Agyekum Kufour.
Nana Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to vote for him and the NPP to come and continue with the good policies and programmes to move the country forward.
Mr Samuel Annor-Dompreh, Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, was optimistic that Nana Akufo-Addo would win the 2012 presidential election.
He appealed to all NPP sympathizers and supporters to campaign vigorously for the NPP flag bearer.
Mr Annor-Dompreh said the victory of the party depended on the youth and asked them not to fail the people of Ghana who expected the NPP to rescue them from the difficulties under Professor Mills’ government.
Mr Kofi Okyere Agyekum, NPP parliamentary candidate for Fanteakwa, said the NPP captured the seat from the NDC in 2004 and retained it in 2008 and said the NPP would win the seat again this year.
Mr Agyekum said statistics available indicated that NPP performance in elections after elections kept improving while that of the NDC was dwindling in the constituency.
He said in 2004 the NPP recorded 20,723 votes and NDC 14,996 votes and in 2008 the NPP increased its votes to 21,726 whiles NDC recorded 14,912.
He urged the people to turn up in their numbers and register in order to be able to vote for the NPP in December.
