Seven districts to receive GH¢40,006 USAID support

Six out of the seven districts in the Ashanti Region, selected for the Partnership for Accountable Governance in Education (PAGE) project, are to receive a total GH¢40,006.98 from the United States International Development Agency (USAID).

The districts include Ahafo-Ano North and South, Offinso, Atwima-Mponua, Adansi South and Offinso North whiles Amansie-West is yet to have its budget for the year approved.

PAGE is a partnership that brings together the Ghana Education Service (GES), USAID and Care International Ghana (CARE) in an effort to achieve the objectives of Ghana’s education strategic plan 2010-2020.

It targets 46 districts nationwide and is collaborating with the district assemblies, district education oversight committees and district education offices to strengthen educational governance, supervision and accountability

Mr George Appiah, an official of CARE in charge of the PAGE Project, said the rationale is that strengthened systems of governance and accountability would lead to better teaching practices and learning outcomes.

He said this when speaking at an education forum held in Kumasi to discuss ways of raising academic performance of schools in the region.

About 70 participants made up of educationists, traditional rulers, and heads of decentralized department attended.

“The improvement of education delivery in Ashanti, a prime concern of every Ghanaian” was the theme.

Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, the Regional Education Director, thanked USAID for its tremendous support for the country, particularly in the area of education and said he was confident that this would continue.

The participants called on Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) and School Management Committees (SMCs) to help to successfully implement the project.
