Daasebre Oti Boateng, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, has returned home from Afghanistan where he joined a seven-member delegation of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) of the United Nations to interact with UN personnel.

A statement made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday said the exercise was a normal UN arrangement for members of its Civil Service Commission to look at the general condition of service of UN personnel serving at duty stations that were regarded as dangerous.

Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is also the President of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs, said the delegation looked at all the conditions of employment of the UN personnel, including Ghanaians, their salaries, pension, hazard payments.  The delegation also looked at the rest and recuperation arrangements of the staff.

He said the objective of such visits was to help reduce the stress level of such personnel, adding “This goes a long way to build mutual trust between the UN and their employees who are working in difficult terrains.”

Daasebre Oti Boateng said he had also been on UN delegations to Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire for the same objective.

He had earlier attended the 74th session of the ICSC in Bangkok, Thailand.
